Guilin Children’s Palace Visit- August 2017

The Hawkes Bay Orchestral Society in conjunction with the New Zealand China Friendship Society is delighted to welcome performers  from  the Guilin Children’s Palace to Hawkes Bay in early August 2017.

This is a wonderful opportunity to return the fabulous hospitality and friendship shown by the people of Guilin to the HBOS players who were part of the 2016 cultural exchange to Guilin and Shanghai.

See the link below for a full report and visual images of this amazing visit.

Hawkes Bay Orchestral Society’s cultural exchange to China a success

Guilin is the sister city of Hastings and the Children’s Palace allowed us to use their facilities as our base for rehearsing during our 10 day stay and we are looking forward to hosting them in Hawkes Bay this year and having the opportunity to showcase their talents to the Hawkes Bay Community alongside our own  talented players.

The visitors from the Children’s Palace will be arriving into New Zealand on Monday August the 7th.

The first official item on their programme will be a uniquely  New Zealand Cultural Experience with a Powhiri at Te Aute Boys College on the morning of Wednesday August 9th.

That afternoon there will be a Mayoral Reception at the Hastings District Council buildings with visits to the official Sister City Relationship Room and to the Osmanthus Garden at Cornwall Park.

The performers from the Children’s Palace will then tour St Patricks Primary School in Napier, Havelock North Intermediate and Havelock North High School to perform and share in cultural exchange.

The tour will conclude with a public performance at the Blyth Performing Arts Centre at Iona College, Havelock North on Saturday August 12th at 10.30 am . The players from the HBOS Youth Orchestra and Training Orchestra will open the festivities before the Guilin Children’s Palace give their final performance.

We are extremely grateful to the Hastings District Council for funding a large part of the week’s activities and to Ginette Miller ( HDC Events manager) for the organisation involved.

We farewell Clara Ahrens

Orchestra

Sadly, we farewell Clara Ahrens who has been with us for the last 12 months as an International Student studying at Havelock North High School. Clara has been a wonderful member of our Youth Orchestra playing clarinet  but it’s time for Clara to return home to Germany at the end of Term1. Thanks Clara for being such a fun part of the Orchestra, we hope to hear from you in the future.

Website rebrand

From the Committee, Rebrand

It was a long time coming, but finally we have the website up into the 21st Century!  Mobile friendly and much sleeker. A great marketing tool to really advertise our services to the Hawkes Bay Community.

And just for our members – this site will allow you to login to track events and  rostered days.  If you would like to see other information here, let us know, just fill in the “Contact Us” form found nearly everywhere on this site.

What next? Increase our visibility to the public by getting onto platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to directly advertise our services to our target markets.

2017 Off to a great start

Orchestra

I’m very happy with the bunch of kids we have this year, and very appreciative of how the rosters for setting up and for morning tea are working – and for the parent support too.
